Therapy Groups: Support & Processing

Group Therapy at Ataraxia Counseling

Group therapy brings together a small number of people facing similar challenges, guided by a licensed or registered clinician, to work through shared struggles in a supportive, structured setting. It's not a support circle or a class — it's an active therapeutic process, just like individual or couples counseling, but one that draws on the power of connection and shared experience as part of the healing itself.

Open vs. Closed Groups

We offer two types of groups, each suited to different needs:

Open groups run on an ongoing basis with no fixed start or end date. Members can join at any point as space allows, and the group continues week to week. Open groups are a great fit for building long-term skills and community support at your own pace.

Closed groups run for a set number of sessions with a fixed group of participants who begin and complete the series together. Because the same people are in the room from start to finish, closed groups build a deeper level of trust and cohesion, which allows for more focused, in-depth work over the course of the series.

Why Groups Work

There's something uniquely powerful about realizing you're not the only one carrying a particular struggle. Groups offer:

  • Connection — the relief of being understood by people who genuinely get it

  • Perspective — hearing how others navigate similar challenges can open up new ways of thinking about your own

  • Practice — a real, relational space to try out new skills, communication styles, and ways of showing up, with immediate feedback

  • Accountability — a group creates a natural sense of momentum and follow-through that's harder to build alone

Groups are facilitated by our licensed and registered clinicians and are tailored to specific ages and goals. If you're curious whether group therapy might be a good fit for you, reach out and we'll help you find the right one.
